Composting your shipping materials is an important part of the process of sustainable shopping! Our shop sources our compostable bags mainly from the companies The Better Packaging Company & Hero Packaging. These companies source raw materials to create parcels that can be put straight into your garden or composter & decompose safely.
Buying second hand & vintage clothing is a good step at reducing your carbon footprint, as well as reducing the waste going directly to landfill, but making sure the way in which you receive your pieces (if purchasing online) is good for the earth, is also significant!
A few years ago when I first started shipping items more regularly, I was shocked to realise how many plastic bags I went through when using AusPost materials. I was even more horrified when I put them in my plastic recycling bin & were told they were not able to be recycled and were considered trash. After going through about 200 plastic mailers with AusPost, that's 200 plastic bags I put out into the world.. I came to the stark realisation that what I was doing was so harmful for our earth. My move to compostable or recyclable materials for shipping has been such a positive one! I encourage anyone who ships, whether it be once a year or everyday, to choose your shipping materials (wrapping, tape & mailers) as wisely and eco-friendly as possible!
I have attached some photos of my compostable bags in the process of decomposition!
